Local Love For An Eco-Friendly Wedding at Crockwell Farm

When it comes to wedding inspiration, few ideas feel as refreshing and achievable as this beautifully eco-friendly wedding inspiration at the dreamy Crockwell Farm in Northamptonshire. Coordinated by Anne O’Brien of Bluebell Ceremonies with sustainability and local community in mind, the concept was inspired by the “10-mile menu” concept often found in farm-to-table dining. The creative team behind the shoot set themselves a unique challenge: could they plan an entire wedding using only suppliers located within an average of 15 miles from the venue? The result… yes, and it’s beautiful! Filled with seasonal blooms, preloved accessories, and an enchanting outdoor setting. This shoot not only showcases the incredible talent available right on your doorstep but also highlights how couples can reduce their wedding miles and create a more sustainable celebration without compromising on style.

“Our goal was to inspire couples to make the most of the incredible talent that’s right on their doorstep, supporting local suppliers and reducing their wedding miles. The idea initially came from a 10-mile menu, and I wondered if I could do the same for a wedding! Our influences were seasonal, local, wildflowers, preloved and outdoors. We challenged ourselves to source all our suppliers from an average of 15 miles away from our venue. Talk to your venue about their recommendations and check their supplier list if you are aiming to do the same. Use Google Maps to search for local suppliers. Right-click on the map to access the measure distance tool. Working this way makes the whole process more targeted and intentional, and means that you’re working with suppliers who know the venue and make a great team too”

Crockwell Farm is widely regarded as one of the most stunning and naturally beautiful wedding venues in Northamptonshire. A specialist, family-run venue providing a unique service, it offers exclusive use of its facilities over three days. Our wedding planner Katie Lou Weddings sourced tableware locally from Chipping Norton Event Hire. The focus for the tablescape was on layering details and curating standout elements. We started with a rattan charger to frame the plate and add visual interest. The green patterned plates worked perfectly with our outdoor, wildflower influences, and the green water glasses added a pop of colour. Hiring key pieces like chairs is not only sustainable, but elevates the entire setup without breaking the budget.”

Planning Advice

“When it comes to photography, my number one is to define your style! With a sustainable theme, we were always going to be looking for someone local, relaxed, creative and a little bit arty. And that’s what we got by the bucket load with Sam Bennett Photography. For the dress, be sure to search out pre-loved and sample dresses for unique looks that don’t cost the earth and break the mould a little. We worked with Bridal Reloved, a network of award-winning bridal boutiques specialising in sample and pre-owned, high-end designer wedding dresses. The choice and quality are really impressive.”

“British cut flowers are a must! They’re beautiful, sustainable and fresh as a daisy. Sure, you’ll have to be a bit more flexible about what’s in season, but thinking creatively produces the most stunning results. We worked with local Northamptonshire grower and florist Willow Green Flower Farm. All the flowers were British-grown and the majority were sourced from within 5 miles of the venue, including early peony, sweet rocket, stocks, forget-me-nots, daisy, buttercups, ranunculus, lupin, bluebells, cow parsley and aquilegia. The ‘flower cushions’ for the tablescape were made from turf with wild flowers added, and the floor-standing ‘meadows’ were made with compostable trays and biodegradable foam. The flower crown used a delicate woven willow framework, and the tree garlands were wired to allow them to be draped. Search for your nearest grower wherever you are via Flowers From The Farm.

“The wedding cake was designed by Bloom Bakehouse and used colour and texture, rather than flowers, to create depth and character. Both a tiered and a centrepiece sheet cake were created to add interest and variety. The colour of the cake was based on the current ‘butter yellow’ trend, and the textured finish was inspired by the wildflower wedding vibes, giving a relaxed and natural feel.”

“For the hair and makeup, we created two looks to complement. For the jumpsuit, Sarah Evans Makeup created an elegant, timeless look with fresh, polished skin and sculpted cheekbones, defined eyes and standout lips. To get the look: use a long-wear foundation with a radiant finish; lightly contour and highlight the face; use a warm rosy blush and soft taupes with a shimmer for the eyes. Complete with defined lashes and a long-lasting setting spray. Hair was kept classic with a middle parting and sleek low bun, for a clean and contemporary look, created by Elizabeth Jane Wedding Hair. For the dress, Sarah was inspired by a bohemian, ethereal style – featuring soft peachy tones, glowing skin and a natural finish. To create this look, prep with radiant primer, use cream blush and highlighter for a dewy finish. Keep eye makeup soft with warm browns and rose tones, and choose a tinted lip balm in a rosy-peach shade. For the hair, Liz created relaxed waves to complement the boho flower crown and full-length veil.”

“When choosing jewellery for your wedding day, think about comfort, confidence and the style of your dress or outfit. If your dress has a high neckline, a necklace might get lost, but drop earrings will look stunning, filling the negative space between the shoulders and the ears. Don’t be afraid to use colour, as this can tie in with flowers or eye colour, and can even be a nod to birthstones for either the bride or groom. Pearls are a firm favourite for bridal jewellery, but these come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colours, so brides can always do tradition with a twist. For the Love Local shoot, Kate from MacAngus Designs used one of her star sapphire pendants featuring a yellow sapphire set in the middle, which was perfect for the bride.”

“We worked with a local watercolour artist and stationer, Anna Jayne Designs. Working with the sustainable theme, Anna took inspiration from the everyday plants she sees in the garden and from walks in the countryside. This led to the use of strawberry flowers and apple blossoms in the design and a fresh pastel palette. Favours were gorgeous, multi-purpose napkins, featuring the watercolour floral design, personalised with each guest’s name. A combined keepsake and favour, as well as looking so pretty on the plate. If you’re planning to give favours, make sure they have a life after your wedding, and look out for multi-purpose stationery, made from recycled paper.”

“If you’re looking for a wedding ceremony that celebrates your style, engages your loved ones and honours your story, then a celebrant ceremony is the only way to go. There are so many beautiful ways to personalise your ceremony. For this shoot, we featured a quaich and a cocktail shake! A quaich is a traditional two-handed cup from which each partner takes a sip to symbolise togetherness and celebration. A cocktail shake is a fun way to represent all the ingredients for a successful marriage, and also be the first to toast your wedding! We made a strawberry daiquiri – with strawberry for sweetness, lime for zest and rum for warmth”

“The beauty of the Crockwell Farm venue and every detail of our shoot was captured by Shannon Rosia, skilfully blending video, music and the spoken word to tell our story. Models Fiona and her partner Alex were our model couple for the day. They’re getting married later this year and brought an overall relaxed, fun vibe to the shoot!”
