Some weddings just ooze effortless romance, and this destination celebration at the breathtaking Chateau St Michel in France is one of them. With a desire to create an intimate, vintage-style wedding weekend, Danielle and Jeremy planned the entire day in just six months combining a touch of vintage charm with timeless elegance.
“We met four years ago in London, through our maid of honour, Becky,” says Danielle. But their love story soon turned long-distance when Jeremy relocated to Madrid. “When Jeremy had to move for work six months later, I said my goodbyes, but after visiting him the next month, I decided to move and join him.”
The couple got engaged not long after and knew they didn’t want to wait around. “We got engaged and decided we wanted to get married ASAP! So we planned the wedding in only six months,” she explains. What followed was a whirlwind of planning, a lot of creative DIY, and one unforgettable destination wedding weekend with loved ones at Chateau St Michel.
Danielle admits that planning a destination wedding without help wasn’t easy in the early days. “It wasn’t easy to plan a destination wedding without any help at the beginning, so I found lots of inspiration in wedding blogs.”
With a clear vision in mind, “We liked the bohemian but classy vibe of some weddings we saw, but didn’t want something too bohemian” They settled on an aesthetic that was timeless, romantic, and personalised to perfection. “We wanted a vintage chateau intimate wedding, and it was perfect!”
Chateau St Michel provided the dream setting for their celebration. “The Château is a unique venue: a nineteenth-century historic French castle that has been extensively renovated to reflect a wonderful mixture of inspiration and architecture,” Danielle shares.
And with space to host guests all weekend long, it was the perfect place for a destination wedding. “We wanted our guests to stay with us, and it was the perfect place to celebrate and have an unforgettable weekend together.”
Danielle and Jeremy brought a meaningful DIY element to their day, adding sustainable and personalised touches to the styling. “The menus with the wax seals are our special DIY element, which were on top of the plates on the tables,” she says.
But one of the most thoughtful details? “Our seating plan was made DIY by Jeremy’s dad. It had little bottles of handmade limoncello for guests, each with a tag and on the back was the table name to direct them to their seat.” Their travel-inspired tables were decorated with Polaroids of their adventures, propped on mini easels. “We made lots of things DIY! So they were sustainable (…and it was also lovely to make them with our closest, so we can keep all those memories as well).”
From bridal prep to first look, their day was filled with laughter and intimacy. “The preparations with my bridesmaids were so funny, and also the First Look with Jeremy was so special,” says Danielle.
Their vows were a highlight of the ceremony, and of course, the party delivered in true style. “We exchanged our vows in the ceremony (that was very touching!), but definitely the party was probably the best moment… I sang a song with the band!”
Danielle has one key tip for any couple planning a wedding abroad: “If you’re planning a destination wedding, I’d probably recommend having a local planner or designer that can guide you and show you some trustworthy vendors.”
From a love story that spanned two cities to a weekend-long celebration in a French chateau, that was planned in just six months, Danielle and Jeremy’s wedding is proof that with a clear vision, a little creativity, anything is possible.
