Las Vegas Wedding Meets Manchester After Party- Part Two
How did You and Peter Meet?
“Peter and I were good friends for a while before we started dating. We lived close to one another and became inseparable for around a year. We both secretly had feelings for one another and then on Valentine’s Day I finally plucked up the courage to ask Peter on a proper date; the rest is history.”
The Proposal
“After eight wonderful years, it was finally Peter’s turn to pluck up the courage and ask me to marry him. We were on holiday in Mexico and Peter had planned the perfect evening: a romantic dinner, followed by a walk along the beach where he would pop the question as the sun set. Needless to say, it didn’t go to plan. I knew something was strange from the start as a very nervous Peter paced the hotel room taking full advantage of the tequila in our room.”
“We ended up having to change restaurant due to a mix up with reservations; we argued over dinner; and of course, the beach was closed off due to an unanticipated storm. We headed back to our hotel room feeling a little glum, but just as we got to the room, Peter got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It turned out to be just perfect in the end: very private and emotional. Of course, we celebrated with more tequila.”
Planning The Wedding
“We always knew that we didn’t want a traditional white wedding and often joked about eloping and getting married in Vegas. Once we started planning the wedding, and looking at destinations, the idea of a Vegas wedding actually seemed perfect for us. We wanted a stress-free, intimate wedding followed by a relaxed dinner for our guests, but most of all we wanted everyone to have fun. When planning the wedding, I wouldn’t say we had a theme as such; it was more a case of if we liked it, then we had it. However, we did use a lot of botanical décor to match the vibe of our wedding garden.”
The Location
“Castlefield has always been a special place to us, as we used to go there a lot when we first started dating, and we knew that The Castlefield Rooms would be the perfect venue for our August bank holiday wedding reception.”
The Dress
“I initially knew what I didn’t want more than what I did when looking for my dress. Whilst searching online, I came across Australian designer Anna Campbell and I just knew I had to get married in one of her dresses. I found a stockist in my home town of Manchester and made the earliest appointment I could at Jean Jackson Couture. Felicity and her mum, Beck, were absolutely wonderful in helping me to find the perfect Anna Campbell dress. I chose Annabella and Beck customised the top for me with beaded loops.”
The Suit
“Although we were getting married in 40 degrees heat, Peter still wanted to wear a three-piece suit. The men wore suits from Slaters Menswear for the ceremony and floral braces and bow ties from Topman for the evening and reception.”
The Bridesmaids
“It was extremely important to me that the bridesmaids felt comfortable in their dresses and that we chose them together. We originally saw the dress they wore during one of our first searches and after looking at many others, we always came back to this one. It is from ASOS and we loved the way it has a bow on the back to match mine.”
The Details
“For our UK reception, we chose Frog Flowers to create superb centerpieces and chair décor made up of wild foliage. Wearing a veil just wasn’t for me, so the magnificent Geraldine from Folky Dokey created a bespoke flower crown for me to wear to both venues.”
Words of Wisdom
“My biggest piece of advice would be to do what is right for you. With so much advice online, and opinions from friends and family, it’s easy to be swayed by others and their ideals. It was a hard decision for us to make to keep our ceremony so intimate. We received many gasps and raised eyebrows when we told people we were going to get married in Vegas, but it was right for us and I don’t have a single regret. Make sure you bring both of your personalities into the wedding and don’t despair if things go wrong. Lastly, take some time to spend alone together on the day and enjoy every moment because it really does go so quickly!”
