An Intimate Mountain Top Wedding In Montana

When it comes to weddings later in life, there’s a unique kind of confidence and beauty that shines through and Michelle and David’s celebration is the perfect example. Married at The Summit at Whitefish Mountain Resort, their day celebrated love and family, paired with breathtaking mountain views that made for a truly beautiful wedding in Montana.

After a chance meeting on Match.com, their connection blossomed into the perfect 21st-century love story and a beautiful second chance at marriage. We chat with their celebrant, Audrey Hyvonen of Celebrant with Bespoke Ceremonies Montana, who shares an inside look at the couple’s journey, their personalised ceremony, and the thoughtful choices that shaped their intimate celebration.”

“A combination of ski lodge resort and western flair with a casual vibe was the inspiration for this wedding. The Summit at Big Mountain is reachable by chair lift or gondola, and when you reach the top, you can see the mountains of Glacier National Park in one direction, the border of Canada to the north and on a clear day, the lakes that are south of the mountain. A good local photographer will bring you to the side hill where the wildflowers line the side of the path in this national forest land, and after the ceremony, there is a festive celebration time on the deck!”

“Michelle and David had all five grown children part of their wedding celebration, with each holding a specific role. Betsy minded the bouquet, Lucia and Leo were ring guardians, and Declan and Phoebe each served as witnesses and signers for the legal paperwork. After the couple made their Declarations of Intent, there was a lovely ‘Community Vow” in which they next turned to face the children. The kids were charged with taking the couple fully into their family, with uplifting words and tangible support, a promise to which they heartily agreed.”

“Choosing to have an intimate ceremony with a quiet and small reception of 7, including the couple, was certainly a choice that minimised environmental impact compared to a destination event with a gathered congregation. Utilising outfits for the whole wedding party that could be worn comfortably in future events was a fabulous plan as well. Using a select set of affirming vendors, the couple was met with only excitement and enthusiasm about their union.”

“Planning for additional photos at the neighbouring lake on the way to dinner allowed for more captures in varied settings, reducing the travel needed to capture such variety in a day-long mountain adventure session popular in this area. Having the whole family together to celebrate was the highlight of this day filled with joy and fun.”
