Where To Start When Planning Your Wedding

Congratulations! You’re engaged. Now’s a great time to revel in it and enjoy being someone’s fiancé for a little while! However, if you’re feeling a little daunted by the whole idea of planning your wedding and want to get a head start on it all, there are a few different things you can do to help ease yourself into the planning process. So as you’re showing off your new engagement ring to family and friends, why not keep these in mind these tasks before the main bulk of the planning gets underway?

Where To Start When Planning Your Wedding

Visit venues

Choosing where you’re going to get married is probably one of the most important choices you’ll have to make when planning your wedding, so it’s a great idea to get ahead of the game. Since venues typically get booked up well over a year in advance, this is a decision that you should start thinking about as soon as you have the time. Remember to visit more than one venue, and mix up the venue styles and locations – you might be surprised by where you end up choosing!

Create a wedding budget

Another important discussion is the wedding budget. You’ll need to determine pretty quickly exactly how much you and your partner have to spend on the whole day before you start booking things. There’s no right or wrong amount here but make sure to have a frank conversation with your other half so you arrive at a realistic and achievable figure. Consider ways you can save money on the wedding, as well as breaking your budget down into venue, catering, flowers, etc.

Write a provisional guest list

Sadly, you can’t invite everyone to your wedding, so a good tip for writing a guest list is to think about who you couldn’t get through the day without. Your guest list will arguably be determined by the budget, so this is a great task to do after you decide how much you both have to spend on your big day. It’s also a good idea to ask your parents for help as they’ll be able to advise on inviting any distant relatives.

Write ideas and collect images for a theme

A less stressful and more creative task is writing down ideas and collecting images for a wedding theme. Trawling through Pinterest for wedding themes and colour schemes can help you get a mood board together quickly. Remember, your wedding theme should represent you as a couple – do you want to go more traditional, or something completely out of the box?

You can have a classic wedding with gold and ivory decorations. You can also have a vintage wedding, complete with retro hairstyles and even royal settings. For a bolder look, go for an alternative Gothic wedding in a dark and cool tone. Don’t forget to consult your wedding decor supplier, bridal gown designer, flower delivery service, and so on. This will enable you to visualise your ideal wedding theme once you decide which theme perfectly suits you two. The sky is the limit with whatever theme you pick!
