“I wanted to do a shoot to show that styling your wedding can be so unique. Particularly around Asian weddings. When I got married I struggled to find any inspiration that mixed western culture with Asian culture. It was one or the other. Or normally the women wore traditional Indian outfits with the groom wearing a traditional English top and tails. I wanted show people that you can have both.”

“My brother’s girlfriend at the time was my influence. She turned up to a traditional Indian wedding reception in a real boho outfit. Completely different to anyone else. She wore an Asian boho skirt and mixed it with a top she got from Top Shop and added some Indian jewellery. No make up and flat sandals and she looked fabulous!”

“The shoot was at Dorney Court in Windsor. A very traditional Tudor venue. Perfect for throwing in something very non-traditional, ie, an Asian wedding”

“I went for simple, muted colours. Greens, blues, creams with a hint of gold to tie in some of the Indian jewellery and the traditional Indian gold”

“I wanted to the shoot be simple and non-tradtional with a traditional twist. Dorney Court is quite a dark venue with some beautiful pockets of light so I utilised those as much as possible. All natural light to keep in with simple natural feel of the shoot.”

Bridal – Bowen-Dryden

“I chose the outfit, not only for the colour and the detail in the top, but also it’s not a traditional English wedding dress and has the beautiful flowing skirt like some of the Indian outfits do. I styled it with a dupatta (Indian shawl/scarf) and some Indian jewellery”

Flowers – Penelope Hunter Flowers

“We chose blues and greens for the flowers, with some white mixed in to break it up. This again tied in with top from the bridal outfit. The bouquet was to be free flowing and loose like the dress, with a few gorgeous succulents thrown in for some structure.”

Cake – Cherry Tree Cakerie

“The cake design was inspired by the beautiful embroidery on the bride’s camisole top and the aim was to create a free-flowing and organic feel with the use of hand painted marbling and wafer paper flowers, which gave a wonderful translucency to the cake, capturing the light and creating movement.”

Hair – Kim Sandford  Hairdressing

“We soft curls to tie in with the romantic feel which complemented the stunning dress, A Dutch braid adds a little detail which works perfectly with the gold headpiece. As the ‘bride’ doesn’t normally wear make up, it was kept as simple as possible with some emphasis on the eyes. Also, it tied nicely with the natural look I was trying to create.”

Hair Accessories – Rachel Sokhal Bridal

“It was exciting to be asked to produce the accessories for this shoot as the Anglo-Asian fusion is close to my heart, as my husband is Indian. It was important to keep with the theme but I wanted to really celebrate the two cultures coming together.  So I kept the gold metal that would inevitably be seen in a traditional Indian wedding but designed and created something more contemporary to truly reflect an East meets West fusion.”

Henna/Mehendi – Bhavi’s Mehndi

“I wanted to tie in some of the traditional Indian so Bhavi Shah was the mendhi artist. Normally the bride would be adorned in Henna, but to keep in with boho styling of the shoot Bhavi used a simple design but kept it traditional. Using henna on both the hands and the feet.”

Groom’s Outfit – The Sherwani Company

“The grooms outfit was a traditional Indian suit. It was absolutely perfect to pull in the gold styling but without a lot of bling”

Stationery – Lynda Loves

“Working with a palette of pale greys, greens and hints of gold, the stationery suite was designed with a contemporary feel, using a combination of modern calligraphy and classic typography to combine the two cultures of Old English and Asian Boho style.A simplified abstract Indian pattern featured on the vellum wrap and rsvp wallet, these were printed in gold to complement the intricate detailing on the grooms outfit and delicate bridal jewellery. Hand finished with pale green wax seals and table stationery with gold calligraphy, blush tassels and gold edge finishing on the menus.”
