Take us to the moon and stars today with this celestial themed wedding shoot at Jervaulx Abbey, Ripon, North Yorkshire. With dreamy styling, macrame details, and ballgown dresses we catch up with shoot stylist and coordinator Jen Sawdon Mckay of My Pretties UK who tells us all about the shoot…
“You will see now celestial themed weddings and shoots popping up all over, we knew back in 2018 that this was going to be a theme loved by many. Keen to share our love of stars and moons and these gorgeous colours, we planned this dreamy shoot in the heart of Yorkshire. As a collective team, we always like to be on (or 2) steps ahead when it comes to wedding trends. We just loved this colour palate, the celestial vibe and the ethereal style of pictures that Jo created.”
“What venue in Yorkshire is more enchanted than the beautifully historic, Jervaulx Abbey? The grounds are stunning and there was just so much to make use of on the day. The Abbey is the oldest, privately owned Abbey in the UK. Owned and Maintained by the Burdon family, Jervaulx is open to the public 8 months of the year… be sure to grab some award winning cake from the tea rooms whilst you’re there!”
“There’s so many interesting details and unique styling throughout this shoot. We had the most incredible macramé pieces from the very talented Vanir Creations , Rebecca loves the celestial and crafted so many cool pieces for us to use.”
“BrambleSky loves to think outside the box with her bespoke props, she made a really cool moon and star, acrylic seating plan, a giant hanging mobile, bespoke signage and more.”
“Frenchie Loves Flowers delivered the brief so perfectly, her wild ultra violet bouquet is still absolutely one of my favourites. She also created 2 gorgeous floral displays for my long table. I used lot’s of candlelight and fairy lights in the styling, as we chose to shoot into the night this really helped create the sense of the celestial. I used dark blue sequined cloths, rich purple velvet fabric and lot’s of crystals and salt lamps to really make this tablescape one of my favourites to create.”
“Jo Bradbury was our photographer for the day, I can’t tell you what a huge honour it was to work with her. Her style was perfect, her images always look dreamy and ethereal. She really captured the essence of the theme and the love between our real couple so perfectly.
“We wanted two looks for both our bride and groom. The day look saw our bride wearing a beautiful bespoke design by Kelly of Klue Doll . A classic ball gown with a twist, the addition of a sparkle tulle and silver star details.”
“The second look could not have been more different. I wanted the evening shoot to have much more of a cool, festival vibe and Kelly designed and made the most epic jumpsuit. I personally love bridal jumpsuits, the detail in this with it’s fringed sleeves and shimmering fabric was so perfect.”
“Frenchie Loves Flowers delivered the brief so perfectly, her wild, ultra-violet bouquet is still absolutely one of my favourites. She also created 2 gorgeous floral displays for my long table. One of my favourite images from the shoot is of our groom holding the bouquet.”
“Cake Royalty, Where The Ribbon Ends made two of the most incredible cakes I’d ever seen. The first was a purple and silver Geo crystal effect cake, dressed with beautiful blooms from Frenchie Loves Flowers, this cake was used in a number of settings during the day. The second cake was a deep purple, 3 tier cake with fairy lights! It was so modern and innovative, when we shot in the evening, it looked so good lit up.”
“Hair and Make Up – with our two looks for our bride, we wanted to make sure they were very different. Her day time look was a subtle bridal look with soft plum shades for her eyes and lips, teamed with a classic up-do and cool star veil.”
“Her evening look our makeup artist Hannah really let loose. She used adhesive crystals around our brides eyes to achieve that festival babe look.”
