Set at the historic Rust Manor House in Leesburg, Virginia, this bold floral wedding reimagines the flower meadow trend with romantic drama. A cascading floral installation in vibrant reds and pinks flowed down the venue’s grand staircase, popping beautifully against neutral interiors and the moody green library. Curated by coordinator Annika of Floriography and captured by lead photographer Emily of Beauty of the Soul Studio, this shoot is for couples wanting to blend timeless charm with show-stopping florals. From dreamy textures to soft bridal styling, every element offers inspiration for creating a wedding that feels both bold and beautifully romantic.
“Inspired by the flower meadow trend, this shoot was designed to take it a step further – literally. A cascade of flowers down the grand staircase of the historic Rust Manor House in Leesburg, Virginia, was the focal point of the shoot. Varying shades of red and pink flowers popped against the neutral-toned foyer of the historic house, while also contrasting stunningly against the moody green library. It was a colour palette straight out of a historical romance novel.”
“To bring this romantic vision to life on their wedding day, a couple could focus on creating a striking floral installation as the centrepiece of their venue – whether a grand staircase, fireplace mantle, or other highlight unique to their wedding venue. Choosing a rich, vintage-inspired colour palette of reds, pinks, and deep purples adds instant drama and romance. Layering different floral textures, like roses, ranunculus, and anthurium, creates the “flower meadow” feel. For the bridal look, a soft-toned gown, such as grey, blush, or champagne, offers a fresh take on tradition while still feeling bridal. Makeup and styling should enhance natural beauty with a soft, romantic touch rather than bold trends. The key is to let the florals and venue speak, using thoughtful details to tie everything together in a way that feels personal yet timeless.”
“Rust Manor House is a refined and romantic historic mansion, yet still a blank slate for bringing your wedding vision to life. Every nook and cranny of the space is full of historic charm. The grand staircase is the heart of the house, with its large second-story bay window filling the space with natural light. The simple romance of the foyer is a foil to the moody romance of the estate’s library. This dark room still feels bright with abundant natural light and floral wallpaper, and is the perfect space for private bridal portraits and a quiet moment before the busy wedding day begins. The rest of the house, too, is full of charming details – from the bridal suite with a playful wallpapered bathroom to the luxe groom’s suite with leather upholstery to the various side rooms perfect for intimate dinners or cocktail hour mingling. Its garden property makes for beautiful outdoor ceremonies, romantic portraits, or even al fresco cocktail hours. Finally, there is a large event tent on the property for larger weddings looking to host everyone for dinner and dancing in one place.”
“The bride’s textured organza ballgown by Vera Wang provides a soft, romantic bridal look, with layers that drape like flower petals. The grey colour of the dress adds a moody touch and helps the dress stand out against the white venue while remaining bridal in tone. When choosing your gown, think about how the colour will interact with your venue’s palette and your floral design. A slightly unconventional tone can make a subtle but powerful statement, allowing you to stand out while still feeling timeless.
“Couples looking to replicate the photography style of this shoot should seek out a photographer who is comfortable with using off-camera flash for indoor settings on the wedding day. Uneven natural lighting indoors can greatly impact the quality of photos, especially in dynamic settings like a grand staircase. Couples should also pay close attention to the posing style of photographers they consider and look for a more editorial, directed-posing style in the portfolio of work. Not only does this relay the more luxury, high-fashion tone, but it also can help couples who are not used to posing for the camera feel more comfortable with very specific direction from the photographer.”
“Vibrant red anthurium, crimson and baby pink roses, scarlet ranunculus, and deep purple asters were just a few of the flowers included in this sweeping display – each one chosen for its texture, depth, and romantic colour story. Couples looking to recreate this look can lean into richly saturated florals. These particular blooms work beautifully together because they offer a range of tones and shapes, creating a layered, almost painterly effect that feels lush and intentional. To carry the theme throughout the wedding day, consider using the same mix of flowers in both your ceremony installation and your bouquet, just as seen here. This approach helps tie different spaces together visually. It’s a subtle but powerful way to ensure your wedding day feels like one cohesive story from beginning to end.”
“Here, the makeup artist knew that the bold florals and dramatic ballgown would be complemented perfectly by a makeup style that was soft, effortless, and timeless. The goal was to enhance the bride’s beauty rather than overpower it. The makeup artist built up her lash line with individual lashes while keeping her lids soft and neutral. For her lips, she chose a blushed berry shade from Charlotte Tilbury to create the effect of a just-kissed flush, complemented by a subtle touch of blush on her cheekbones. She intentionally avoided bronzer, allowing the bride’s porcelain skin to remain fresh and luminous. It’s key for couples to remember that their makeup shouldn’t be the centre of attention. It should enhance your natural beauty, making you feel confident and radiant. The goal is for people to say, “You look stunning!” not, “Wow, look at all that makeup!”
