Today we have something unusual for you, but something truly ethereal. Konstsim Kreativ, an events performing synchronised swimming group came to Stockholm-based Mercier Stockholm Bridal with the creative project of designing wedding dresses inspired by their sport.
They share, “The key was highlighting the softness and fluidity that water brings to movement as well as having fun with all things that glitter. Every designer loves an opportunity to create something beautiful and free of conventional rules and the project was welcomed with open arms. The entire process was a joy from choosing the best ‘water’ fabrics and hand-sewing beads and sequins to choosing which glittering make-up would be used.”
Photographer Julia really captured the softness of movement in fabrics as well as the elegance of the swimmers. A calm takes over looking at these images: a sensation also described by Konstim Kreativ as they frequently take a deep dive below.
“Design wise I wanted layered and light fabrics that would easily flow in water as well as glittering elements to reflect the costumes in the sport Artistic Swimming (formally Synchronised Swimming). So we used sequins and beads swell as diamantes on the face and body. We had icy make-up from Dior and wet-look hair.”
