Get your skates on for today’s roller-bride! With bright, colourful and fun vibes this rollerskate wedding inspiration at Silk Mill Studios, Somerset has disco balls, sequin backdrops and a modern bridal jumpsuit for the occasion. Jackie from Fox and Beau Photography was the shoot coordinator and was inspired by her recent and new hobby of rollerskating. We hear from her and the rest of the team about how this inspiration was created, and they include some top tips for planning your own wedding day too…
Inspiration
“I recently got into rollerskating and this sparked the idea of creating this amazing Rollerbride editorial. I teamed up with some fabulous suppliers and together we created this Disco dream of every rollerskating couple. The idea behind the shoot was really simple and it really didn’t take much to put it all together. Charlie from The Proper Booth supplied all the amazing sequin backdrops, which can be used when you book their Photo Booth. The cake was perfectly matched to the theme and even had disco balls on it. So this is just a case of really communicating with your suppliers for your vision for your wedding day.”
Venue
“The Silk Mill in Frome is a great venue, it’s beautiful as it is, but it is also the perfect blank canvas to create the reception of your dreams. The white brick walls are gorgeous on their own but can also be turned into something a little more colourful, or full of flowers and foliage, whatever your heart desires.”

Bridal – Rose Savage Bridal
“When searching for your perfect wedding outfit there are a few things to consider before diving in. Even if you have a clear idea of what you want to wear it’s always a good idea to try on a few pieces first to check you like the neckline, fabrics and decoration. Then think about your budget (not forgetting to allow for alteration costs) and how your wedding day is going to play out. If a big part of your day is busting a move on the dancefloor you’re not going to want anything too restricting or long that you might trip on, the jumpsuit for this shoot was perfect for the style and theme! At the end of the day, the most important thing is to wear whatever the heck makes you feel amazing and if you can’t find anything quite right in a shop you could always get something made bespoke. That way you can get exactly what you want without compromising!”
Accessories – The Lucky Sixpence
“The two headpieces used for the shoot both had an alternative vibe. The first was a statement crown handcrafted with sequins and pink faux flowers to tie into the sequin backdrops and disco vibe. It is a dramatic piece that was ideal for the fun playful vibe of the shoot. The second piece is one of my classics pieces – a geometric crown. We chose the copper one to fit with the colour palette. The headpiece has the shape and vibe of a traditional crown but being so open with clean lines it has an alternative feel. Reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty crown it reflects a strong woman and is a symbol of new beginnings which is perfect for a bride doing things her way on her wedding day. ”
Jacket – Sammy Leas Retro Emporium
“Two epic jackets were created for the shoot by Sammy Lea’s Retro Emporium. The first was handpainted with a floral rollerskate and disco ball design to match the shoot theme. The second jacket was inspired by retro disco nights, and had a light-up neon lightning strike around a galaxy sky on a fab metallic finish jacket…the whole feel was very studio 51!”
The Details
Flowers – Copper Green Flowers
“Some people know exactly what flowers they love and want on their day but most of us have no idea. If this is you and you don’t know where to begin then start with Pinterest. It is so visual and so easy to use. Just open an account then put in some search words, like ‘rustic wedding bouquet’ or earthy autumn tones. Then start collating lots of images into a board, anything that catches your eye that you like. Consider your life, your home, your clothes, What colours draw you in and make your heart smile? It doesn’t have to just be wedding related because it can all help to build a picture of what you want even if you don’t know it yet. A few days later go back to that board and take out anything that doesn’t flow with the feeling of everything else there. Now you have a firm starting point to approach a florist with and this is what will give you those flowers that will feel uniquely you and that you will love forever.”
Cake – Becci Bakes
“I wanted to go with something really fun and playful for this photoshoot. I picked out colours from the fab painted jackets and used them to create abstract patterns with a retro vibe against a background of lilac buttercream. Touches of gold and silver were used to add dimension, and then to complete the design it was topped with small mirror balls.”
