Think snow queen, mixed with intimate vibes for todays romantic winter wedding inspiration. Set on the beautiful Catalonian mountains surrounded by woodlands, it oozes style, elegance and drama all rolled into one! We catch up with shoot coordinator Anna Winward of Just Married Barcelona and the rest of the team who tell us how this romantic winter wedding was created…
“Living in a sea side warm weather city, most of my weddings are held in summer by the sea, so when I do shoots I let my creativeness run wild. I longed to do a style shoot different to my everyday, and I had been playing with the idea of doing a shoot in the snow for a while. This shoot is set in my favourite season, Winter, and in one of my favourite landscapes, mountain woodland covered by snow. The colours and style reflect my own personal taste. Romantic soft pinks with elegant touches of gold and green, combined with dramatic bold burgundies against the white snow.”
“Inspiration came when discovering c.a.studio’s new stationary collection. As mentioned before, the colour scheme is totally me and I felt attracted to this stationary collection right away. The moment I saw it I knew it was perfect for the shoot I had been thinking about set in the snowed Pyrenees. The pastel tones give us the romantic look, the gold and green make it elegant and sophisticated, and the strong burgundies give the shoot a strong dramatic feel. I added a carefree feel to the shoot with the bride’s loose hair and the groom rebelling against a bow tie. I perceive a very romantic, sophisticated and elegant bride, with a burning passionate heart.”

“There were two locations for the shoot, Mas Sant Marc. A beautiful boutique hotel, set in the heart of Puigcerdà’s countryside, at the foot of the Pyrenees, very near to the French boarder. The hotel has been very carefully refurbished, decorated with delicate traditional elements, giving it a very warm and comfortable feel. It has several types of rooms meaning this venue can accommodate the close family and/or bridal party. The second location is set in the ski slopes of La Molina. There is a lovely little spot, just next to the Lake of La Molina, where there is an unspoilt pine woodland area, which was the perfect setting for our shoot in the snow.”

“We have known each other for a few years now. Cristina has designed stationary for my clients in the past, and we both have a very good understanding of each other’s taste. It was very easy for us to decide on the style and decor. We sent a couple of mood boards back and forth and then I was in charge of finding all the other vendors and products/material for the shoot. I based the styling on the stationary, following the colour scheme and style, making sure everything matched, creating a beautiful balance throughout the shoot.”

“For me it was important that the whole building had the same aesthetic, and had lots of natural light. The venue we worked at was fabulous as it had large windows with lots of natural light and beautiful backdrops in every corner. We based the photo shoot timing on the best time for natural light. This ensured the photos have a beautiful glow and no extra flashes or lights are needed which sometimes make the photos colour altered. My style of photography is very natural, I love to be unnoticed and allow the bride and groom to enjoy their time together, which I shoot away without them noticing. I believe this style of photography brings out their natural beauty, and is a real portrait of the couple.”
Bridal – Rosa Clará
“The bridal gown worn in this shoot belongs to the renowned Spanish designer Rosa Clarà. This mermaid silhouette dress is made with white lace and Guipure. It is sleeveless with v-neck front and a dramatic v back. It is fastened at the back with little white buttons and has a small rounded train. Our bride wears white stiletto Rosa Clarà heels, with a small ankle bracelet with a fastener.
Over her dress, the bride wears a beige and brown fur stole to keep her warm. In between of course she wore a winter jacket – something your guests would need!”
Groom Suit – Onix Girona
“Our groom wore an Italian Lubiam modern smoking suit with a Jacquard jacket and slim cut black suit trousers.”
Flowers – Flors i Plantes Bertrán
“For the centrepieces we have used tropical flowers (strawberry Brunia, jester and sunset safari Leucodendrum, and Proteas) with sweeter flowers like the Sweet Avalanche Rose, the peach Aleli, the rosé Lisianthus rosé and some fuchsia Chrysanthemum that ties us in with the color range. For the greenery we have used Gunny and Mint Green Eucalyptus combined with Baby Garnet Eucalyptus. For the bride’s bouquet, a maxi natural shaped bouquet, we have combined sweet tones together with greenery as a base and filled in with burgundies, giving the bouquet strength. We‘ve followed the same style and colour scheme using mostly the same flowers: Proteas, strawberry Brunia, sweet avalanche Roses and safari and oak Leucadendron.”
Cake – La Llaminera
“Woodland, snow and fresh air were my inspiration when making the cake. A semi naked cake chocolate cake with Madagascar vanilla Italian buttercream, that melts in your mouth. When decorating the cake, I was inspired by ca studio’s Romance Stationary collection. A snow white covering, with a suttle and sophisticated golden dripping, combined with the fresh winter flowers set on the cake. A poetic landscape that transports you to nature with just one bite, with a stylish look to it.”
Hair and Make Up – Teresa Snowball Co
“I wanted the hair loose and soft, but with a lot of flowers because I like the personality that they give to the hair, the products I used are from Alfaparf. I always use them because they give nice textures in a soft way, the product does not heavy at all, and the smell is amazing, it really does make a difference. The first thing I did was blow-dry the hair using Sea Style, giving a nice volume, focusing on the roots. Then I curled the models hair with GHD curling tongs, making nice soft wave. I finished the look by clipping the hair back a bit to keep it off the model’s face. I used Vintage Powder from Alfaparf Style Stories to give some nice volume and texture to the hair, then came my favourite part, creating and playing with the flowers to make a nice flower crown.”
“The first make up look was quite natural, then for the second I darkened the eyes using Caia Cosmetics creams, pinks and burgundy. I also darkened her lips using long lasting lip color which is perfect for weddings. One of the most important aspects for wedding Makeup it that it lasts.”
Stationery – CA studio
“When designing the Romance stationary collection, I thought of a couple who were looking for a sophisticated, elegant and glamorous wedding. The pure white textured paper used for the stationary really marks a difference as this sort of braided paper is more exclusive and not normally used. The stamping technique used for the gold details adds glamour and the floral designs transmit the romanticism we wanted.”
Rings – Joies Orli
“The identical wedding rings are 100% hand made in 18 kt rosé gold. They have a brushed mate finish. This finish has texture too it and looks like it has been brushed. This type of ring is popular, especially with men, because when the ring gets scratched it isn’t as visible. The rings are 3,5 mm thick. The engagement ring is an 18 kt white gold solitary ring with a 0,20 ct diamond. Also made following the artisan method, with a polished shiny finish.”
Furniture, Table ware and linen – Crimons
“We hired the furniture, table ware and linen for the table shoot. The furniture we chose were of natural materials and colours to create a base for the main colours to show up against.
All the table ware has a sophisticated feel to it as we have chosen products that are gold. We have used lace as the table runner and Burgundy serviettes to show up against the white dishes and the natural colour table. The table is decorated with several different sized floral arrangements in glass vases and candles.”
