Lockdown shoot love with this alternative rock wedding inspiration today, with a beautiful tattooed bride, the cutest dog and beautiful bespoke dresses. Set at Bouverie Lodge Bison Farm Leicestershire organiser Vicky Daws of Inviting Writing and a team of creative wedding suppliers created a rock and roll luxe vibe in this shoot aptly titled ‘Love Rocks’. We catch up with her and the team to find out all about this alternative rock wedding…
“Let’s be honest, lockdown hasn’t been the most positive of times has it, for all sorts of obvious reasons, not least the many couples who have been forced to postpone their plans. For many of us in the wedding industry, it was an exceptionally difficult time, seeing our business being pulled out from under our feet, whilst seeing our couples devastated having to postpone their dream days. We all received many words of encouragement and found ourselves in the same place as so many others. Love is patient, love is not cancelled. I decided it was time to turn this sudden extra time I had on my hands into some creative time, something I never normally get to do. So many ideas swimming around my head that I’ve never been able to put into production. So now was the time to get cracking.”
My only clear vision was that I wanted it to be edgy but glamorous and feature tattoos, but I had a whole load of other conflicting ideas, so it was time to bring some other creative people into the mix. It was everyone’s collective input and our model Sam’s incredible, magenta hair that took us down the route of deep jewel tones, mixed with just a hint of goth, to create our edgy look. Why can’t a tattooed bride look like a beautiful rockstar on her wedding day!”
“This shoot allowed all the suppliers to do something different, exciting, creative and really had us all in the mood to get back into weddings again! Caroline creates bespoke bridal gowns and was able to create and make her design that she has had in her mind for a long time. Vickie the wedding stylist had fun finding beautiful complementary colours for all the decor and her incredible eye for detail really shone through! Sam hand painted the biscuit favours and added gold leaf too, she also had fun with different textures with the wedding cake using wafer, paint and gold foil and brought the beautiful rose details into her design too. Ruby’s choice of flowers were so perfect and complemented the scheme beautifully, the long trailing ribbons were so effective on what was such a windy day! On this occasion she chose silk flowers as the kind of flowers we were looking for weren’t really available and you may find that your chosen blooms aren’t in season that go with your chosen scheme. We particularly loved the beautiful floral collar she made for our canine model Penny! Jonathan the photographer had fun finding lots of quirky backgrounds for us on a real, working farm and not just any farm… a Bison farm! The gorgeous babies had us a little distracted for a while! Our thanks also to Margaret, Sophie and Agatha – local businesses in Melton Mowbray who were generous enough to allow us to borrow some goodies for us to complete the entire look.”
“Model Sam’s beautiful sleeve of tattoos is just made up of line drawings of many different flowers, a bunny and a cat too! It also features roses and this created the basis for the stationery & signage. The final inspiration for the place cards and table number was actually taken from a real tattoo of someone’s name written into the shape of a rose, which I then made on vellum to add softness with a torn edge. As a calligrapher, I am normally, mostly creating wedding stationery, but I also create signage for restaurants, pubs and cafes and so I wanted to bring some of the italics into the wedding signage and mix it up a bit. The signage therefore mostly features italic capitals with hand drawn roses to soften up the bold, straight lines. Colour was brought into the stationery to complement Vickie’s rich jewel tones and contrasting fabrics on the table. It featured teal crushed velvet, deep magenta linen napkins, gold chargers and simply loads of candles.”

“What do you really love? What makes both of you tick? Take inspiration from your colour choices at home, to the colour of your hair like we did from our model Sam. Don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit. Contrasting colours are often incredibly complementary. Use different textures like we did with crushed velvet and linen on the table. Incorporate personal touches wherever you can, from the design of a tattoo, to including your pet on your special day. Your wedding should be about the two of you, not necessarily bowing to what is on trend! We truly hope we’ve given you some inspiration for breaking away from the norm, embracing your personality and truly make your wedding day about you! Love ROCKS!”
