If you’re looking for a glamorous, red carpet vibe for your big day, then look no further! This black tie wedding at Wadhurst Castle, Kent, is full of elegant and luxurious details. Coordinated by SJB Hair & Makeup the inspiration behind the shoot was an eclectic mix of Hollywood glamour, contemporary details with a bit of SATC thrown in… we say the perfect mix! We catch up with the team to find out all about it.
Inspiration
“The theme of the shoot was black tie so we wanted to it to represent elegance and sophistication throughout the styling, from the ceremony setup, wedding breakfast and the bride and grooms’ fashion which had a modern but classic flair. Our aim was to go for an intimate but back to the traditional days where people really dressed up in red carpet glam for weddings, so no outfit would be too big or too bold, think Sex and City Carrie Bradshaw but in the grounds of a beautiful one-of-a-kind Castle in the stunning Kent countryside.”

Venue
“Wadhurst Castle, is a beautiful Regency Castle set in the Kent countryside and with its own magnificent gardens. Hosting weddings and all other unforgettable celebrations. Weddings can be hosted inside or outside with so many options from the castle, gardens and carriage barn including small and intimate wedding and celebrations. We used several areas on the grounds of the castle, including the indoor walled garden for the bride and groom’s ceremony which is an absolute feast for the eyes, with so many beautiful plants adoring the room. The Carriage barn for the guests to enjoy their wedding breakfast in a beautiful bright, light and airy space and finally full use of the stunning gardens and grounds that surround the castle.”
Styling
“Colours were kept simple, with the use of black, white, gold and green seen across the beautifully decorated dining table, bouquets and ceremony setting. The ceremony took place in the stunning walled garden within the castle where the bride/groom and guests were surrounded by an array of wild plants and foliage. The wedding breakfast was in a modern and contemporary part of the castle, and everyone had the opportunity to wander around the vast and beautiful grounds. Like a real Alice in wonderland.”

“The entire styling for the wedding around the venue was catered to the colour scheme of black, gold, green and white. The feel for the styling was elegant and opulent to create that black tie feel. The breakfast table adorned with a centre piece, candles and beautiful crystal, gold rimmed glasses. Table ware also trimmed in gold with matching cutlery and showcasing the bespoke stationary to inform guests of their food.”

“The photography showcased the shoot in all its detail and glory and a focus on creating imagery to show how stunning a small and intimate wedding can be and that you do not have to compromise on any aspects of the style.”

“The groom went for a traditional black tux, complete with crushed velvet bow tie and matching cufflinks. The aim was to keep his look clean, classic but with a contemporary twist fully complimenting the bride’s dresses.”

“The bride had two very elegant but different wedding dresses, a beautiful chiffon, soft and floaty number for the ceremony and streamlined, sleek and classy dress for dinner and dance. For each dress, the bride had a different veil, the very popular and modern cape veils with detail for her ceremony and the beautiful long veil for her evening ceremony. Her look was completed with two classic and very different hairstyles, one up and one down finished with the most exquisite and intricate handmade statement hair accessories one that adorned the low bun with beautiful sparkly jewels and a magnificent statement piece for the evening that covered one side of the head to the other and absolutely popped.”

“Hair and makeup for this shoot was created to give a beautifully classy but modern style, and ensuring each look worked perfectly with each dress. The bride went for a clean low bun to showcase her beautiful hair jewellery, the evening reception, hair was let loose and down with a sleek very soft wave. Makeup included a glowy natural skin, soft pink eye and blush complimented by a berry red lip for the autumnal wedding.”
The Details
Flowers – Lily & Myrtle
“The bride’s flowers were filled with the most beautiful array of white flowers and a mix of foliage. The ceremony table featured a stunning flower display that covered almost the length of the table and keeping in theme with the colours and flowers of the bouquet. The wedding breakfast dining space was adorned with a display of foliage along the centre of the table and so complimentary of the space, bringing colour in a soft and natural way.”
Stationery – Lynda Loves
“The stationery was kept minimal and modern to complement the luxe shoot, using a mono colour palette of black and white. Contemporary type was used throughout the invitation suite, paired with modern calligraphy, vellum wraps and black wax seals. The table stationery followed the same design with white menus and black agate slices with white calligraphy for the guest name places.”

“I loved being involved in this shoot, it is always so much better to work with a proper couple, especially one as gorgeous as these two. I tried to capture some of the emotion of the couple well as the sheer elegance of the details of the shoot.
