Today’s blog brings you modern golden age glamour in the atmospheric estate of Poltimore House. Coordinated by couture bridal designer Christine Trewinnard it provides some ethereal juxtaposing inspiration for the modern bride that loves a bit of modern vintage Hollywood style. Here we catch up with the team to hear all about this Poltimore House golden age glamour inspiration…
“Inspired by an iconic era, where evening gowns were unabashedly glamorous and one was almost expected to appear in the genre of a ‘Film Noir.’ The juxtaposition of Hollywood’s Golden Age merging with a tumbled down atmospheric Estate is nostalgically exciting, with its peeling wallpaper, breakaway ivy and dusty books, Poltimore House was the perfect backdrop.”
“My dresses have a mix of classical and vintage elements. I love fine quality and attention to detail. Satin collars and cuffs were one of the classics in couture and add a clean edge to a sheer organza blouse. The satin skirt is generously cut on the bias for a luxurious sophistication, hidden side pockets keep a ‘just in case’ handkerchief or allow the wearer to plunge their hands for that dramatic spinning shot.”
“The buttermilk organza dress has a definite ‘lounge’ feel with a delicately embroidered flower detail and plunging cowl back framing two feathered tassels. Kimono style sleeves are edged with a vintage marabou trim. Sparkly white sequins swirl in glittering whisps completely covering the halter neck gown. A deep V back and skinny rouleau straps peak through fine tulle floating from the shoulders into a heavenly full bridal train.”
“A silky soft relaxed top has a folded front and back wide neck, with pin stitched ruched cuffs. The skirt has a lightly sequined feather design, skimming the hip and falling into gentle fullness. Our model Cat Voysey portrayed the charms of a ‘Femme Fatal’ beautifully with her classical features and natural elegance, the perfect choice.”

“Christine has a unique talent for creating dresses that draw you into another world. I love working with her. We discussed the concept of this shoot at length beforehand and were both clear on the concept and visualisation. I loved the juxtaposition of opulence and decay. Poltimore House provided the perfect backdrop. A forgotten place from a forgotten time littered the remnants of former glories. For the shoot on the day I wanted a cinematic feel to the images. The lighting was absolutely key. As a location it was challenging to shoot in, but the ambient light had an almost dream like quality to it. I am so happy with the end results from this shoot. It feels ethereal”

“A signature in my work is glowing skin and for this shoot, I wanted to reflect the radiance you would see in a portrait from a Rembrandt painting. This gives it a luxurious feel. The colour palette used was worn bronzes and rich berry tones that was inspired by the 1930s. Creating that siren doe-eyed look in a smokey eye that matched the mood of Poltimore and all of the styling.”
Hair- The Up Do Girl
“I wanted the style I created to be sleek with an edge to it, I felt that this tied the venue and styling of the model together perfectly, dramatic yet elegant and timeless. I added extensions to create dimension and texture with multiple fishtail braids that were moulded into a fauxhawk.”
Tableware- Keeping It Vintage
“I love urban decay and having already visited Poltimore House, I knew Christine’s venue choice would be perfect for combining the decaying house with our luxury tableware and decor. The house already contained some abandoned furniture which we utilised for the for tablescape. The mix of crushed velvet, gold cutlery and bespoke glassware was a homage to how the house would have been when it was hosting lavish parties and social events and looked amazing against the decaying backdrop.”

“Using painterly strokes with coco butter and edible colour dusts of greys, steel, soft milky peaches and warm undertones, the distressed grandeur and faded beauty of the cake mirrored the venue with its remaining pieces of torn wafer paper on the surfaces, giving the appearance of ageing walls in a once opulent country house. Corsages of painted berries and sugar roses in bud and bloom, lie fragmented, like chipped china, strewn carelessly across the rims of the tiers. With touches of mauve and darker greys in the blooms. I loved the freedom to take inspiration from the setting, customising it to the look and feel of Christine’s vision.”
Flowers – The Velvet Daisy
“I’m a floral creative, a florist, with an adoration of all things English gardens and countryside. The big bright blooms to the gentle wafty petals of pastel sweetpeas. I absolutely adore a limited brief and the creative freedom which it allows me when collaborating with others to focus entirely on helping an individual to stand out and be seen. A limited brief and an unlimited supply of flowers and foliage, my idea of a day in heaven. Christine’s dresses are beautifully emotive and the photoshoot being held at Poltimore exacerbated the fact. The absolute romance, ethereal quality of her wedding dresses required a floral style that blended softly with them and acted as a backdrop with the colours and textures of the derelict beauty of Poltimore. Trailing soft foliage, the gentle antique and muted colours of English grown garden flowers.”

“The mix between glamorous Hollywood and tumbled down estate was beautifully executed and we decided on creating elegant ivory silk place settings and menus, highlighted with delicate metallic gold edges, elegant sage green satin ribbons, gold hot foil text and a bit of Hollywood glamour with the gold, pearl and diamante brooches, which complimented the styling perfectly. The results, as you can see, were absolutely stunning!”
