Some rock and roll vibes on today’s blog, with edgy pink and black styling and slogan tees with leather jackets… we LOVE. Set at Haarlem Mill Wirksworth, Derbyshire, it has urban industrial undertones, and uber cool vibes, proving, as we already know, you don’t have to follow tradition when it comes to the big day! We hear from the team involved…
“I wanted to show couples that they don’t have to follow traditional styles to get married. Being a more alternative venue we get a lot of couples who want to veer away from the norm but worry about what they’re ‘allowed’ to do. We wanted to show couples that your wedding day really can be whatever you want it to be, and it should be a true expression of your personalities.”
“I took a lot of influence from various elements of weddings we’ve hosted before. Every wedding we host, every new couple we meet bring new creativity, fresh ideas and individual personalities which act as amazing inspiration for us. We’re constantly being surprised by the originality of our couples. I also looked for inspiration in the previous work of the suppliers we chose.”
Styling – Tara Knott
“The style of the shoot was very alternative with a mix of hot pinks and black as the colour palette. We kept the table styling simple but fun with lots of little details against a backdrop of an incredible light up box. The tables had soft drapes through the centre teamed with mini bottles of florals. We added touches of gold to finish off the styling. We curated beautifully styled areas for the cake and table plan with dried palms and fabrics. The ceremony area again had touches of hot pink with a neon as the focal point. We kept the aisle simple with lanterns and candles. We wanted to show that you can go off-piste when it comes to styling your day and make sure the personal touches are all about you.”

“My style of photography is equal parts creative and reportage, so with this shoot I wanted to capture true emotion that just oozes cool. My job is to tell stories, honest and true, and so I usually guide my couples into places of beautiful light or composition then let them be themselves. The camera never lies.”
Bridal- Susanna Greening Designs
“We showcased two different looks during this shoot. Both from my core collection and styled in a way to match the vibe of the shoot and show the versatility of the pieces. The first look was a full tulle and silk skirt which was paired with a hand embroidered t-shirt. The t-shirt was designed just for the shoot as I wanted the first look to have a slightly relaxed feel to it and knew it would work well with the leather jacket and full tulle skirt. It was hand embroidered with the word ‘forever’ in pink which matched the neon we used in the ceremony room. The second look was a high-low hem dress in a polka dot silk which was paired with a pair of Dr Martin boots to give it an edgier feel.”
Flowers- Polka Dot Florist
“I thought that adding a darker element like the deep burgundy in with the soft pinks creates a sense of depth to the arrangements. Darker coloured flowers are known to be difficult to photograph so I like to add different textures and shapes in there to make them more noticeable.”
Hair and Make Up – Ruby J Beauty
“The concept of a wedding has been tipped on it’s head and this shoot was a perfect demonstration of how classics don’t have to be boring. A statement red lip when paired with modern bridal styling like the embroidered t-shirt, full skirt and leather jacket, breathes fresh air into what would be considered an old fashioned basic.”
Stationery- Wild Calligraphy
“With the table stationery I wanted to work with a bolder style to match the modern styling of the shoot. I worked with the dreamiest extra thick black card stock and paired it with a striking white ink for extra drama. Wild Calligraphy can provide table stationery to match a range of themes and colour palettes using eco friendly and sustainable materials. The jacket was designed around the insane seasonal English blooms. The quote ‘lovers are lunatics’ is one of my faves and looked so good with the two piece by Susanna.”
