Inspiration

“This styled shoot was designed to capture the beauty of this new country venue space, especially its serenity and stunning evening light. This venue, along with all of the suppliers involved, has a passion for nature and treading lightly on our planet, therefore this shoot also aimed to show how sustainable wedding choices can be made whilst still enabling your style to shine through and a real focus on beautiful finishing touches.”

How can a couple turn this theme and ideas into reality?

“This shoot shows an intimate celebration that focuses on enhancing the natural beauty of the venue. We looked to our surroundings for inspiration and wanted to only add subtle styling touches to make the day unique whilst minimising the need for lots of extras. This helps from a budget perspective, but also a sustainability perspective, minimising the extras down to those that really add the most impact in the simplest way. Remember, you’ve chosen your venue for a reason, and if it’s because the space really speaks to you then work out what it is you love the most and maximise that aspect”

Venue

“The Jetty at Colmworth Golf Course is a stunning dry hire venue tucked away beside the lake on an inclusive and forward-thinking rural golf course. Nature and the environment was top of the list when The Jetty venue was created – we wanted to make a gorgeous wedding location, with an easy-going – relaxed vibe that worked in harmony with its surroundings. The reclaimed materials and handmade structures on-site enhance the stunning natural landscape around them without detracting from the simple beauty of nature throughout the seasons. The quirky oak wedding structure was created by a local chainsaw artist – it is unique and its natural lines and flowing curves fit perfectly with the lake that surrounds it. With time the oak has silvered along with the rustic decking boards of the jetty, helping it to blend into its stunning backdrop and allowing couples to make it their own – with flowers, lights, candles and accessories of their dreams. The Jetty is perfectly suited to couples looking for a relaxed, natural and care-free celebration of varying size, with the perfect secluded feeling for an intimate sustainable wedding celebration, but also ample space for a larger gathering.”

Styling

Stylist – The White Emporium

“The styling for this shoot really emphasised the laid back vibes of Colmworth Jetty and with the lake, as the backdrop, it seemed the perfect place to host an intimate picnic. To make the beautiful seasonal flowers pop against the backdrop we used hand dyed burnt orange runners which gave them a base to stand out from. We created a rustic-luxe feel for the picnic setup with the clashing colours of vintage Persian Rugs pared back with jute rugs and neutral cushions. The textures of the earthenware vessels and stone slates gave the whole look a modern feel. To emphasise the natural form of the flowers they were displayed in stoneware bowls, allowing both the flower and stem to be showcased – this was especially effective as the low sun began to catch the single stems and cast dramatic shadows across the table. In keeping with the laid back vibes, we used a vintage sofa to build the perfect smores setup around the bespoke firepit, with the styling kept minimal to allow the food and fire to take centre stage.”

Photography

Photographer – Thyme Lane Photography

“Choosing the photographer for this shoot was easy as we knew exactly what it was we wanted to capture. The emphasis on the natural beauty of the space, the dappled low light, the warm evening tones and the laid back approach meant that Thyme Lane Photography ticked all of the boxes as the perfect match. In a similar way as for this shoot, when choosing your wedding photographer take time to consider exactly what it is that means the most to you and you want them to capture. Is it perfectly posed group shots, a bright photography style, fun and light-hearted, dramatic, earthy, or maybe something else entirely that matters most to you?”

The Bride

Dress – Cambridge Vintage Bridal

“Our model wears an original 1950s full length, halter neck, ivory damask wedding dress – Elegant, sensual, feminine and timeless. This style is so versatile and can be worn whatever the season – just add a wrap, cape or shoulder veil. This was important for us to consider here as with us embracing the low light of the evening we wanted to ensure our model remained comfortable and stylish throughout – worthwhile considering no matter the time of year you plan to marry! With a love of nature and our planet in mind, this shoot also looked to embrace a sustainable approach to bridal, opting for the perfect reuse of a vintage gown. Vintage doesn’t mean dated, this dress looked perfectly modern and worked well for the relaxed vibe of this shoot!”

Hair and Makeup – Kate Atalay Bespoke Hairstyling and Ali Kynoch Make-Up Artist

“With a relaxed natural feel running through this whole shoot, Kate wanted to make the most of our model’s beautiful natural hair without adding too much heat. Kate opted for plaits twisted into a heart-shaped at the nape of her neck, and with the beautiful green velvet headband and halter neck preloved dress, this style finished the look perfectly and with no styling products needed! To achieve the fresh natural minimal makeup look, Ali used earthy warm neutral tones and added a subtle touch of gold shimmer to highlight the eyes, helping to make them pop and sparkle. To create a natural flawless base, Ali used just a tinted moisturiser and then applied concealer as and where needed. Ali says “A useful tip for keeping your foundation flawless throughout your wedding day is to invest in using a primer… Apply a small amount covering your face after your moisturiser… this preps your skin before applying your base”

The Details

Flowers – English Petal and Herb

“As a florist that has its own flower farm, English Petal and Herb focused on a wildflower theme with English flowers taking centre stage. The bouquet offered a relaxed and free-flowing country feel using a mix of in-season flowers such as ox-eye daisies, nigella, Ammi and delphiniums complemented by wild grasses, roses, achillea, dahlias and pheasant feathers. Despite the autumnal feel, this shoot occurred in June. When finding inspirational shoots you love, please consult your local florists for advise on how you can best recreate the look with alternative seasonal blooms to suit your chosen time of year – trust the experts to create the look you love but in a planet-friendly way! The displays were created using eco-friendly approaches, with the jetty arch using moss as its structural base and the picnic table arrangements were all foam-free. Planters were used by the firepit instead of cut flowers – this is a great option should you wish to move displays around your venue during the celebration and eventually take them home to enjoy further!”

Cake – Bitesize Bakehouse

“This amazing cake was heavily inspired by the idea of gathering around the campfire with friends, huddled in blankets and sharing a laugh whilst enjoying the indulgent treat of toasted marshmallows and smores. Jade of Bitesize Bakehouse is not only an ethical wedding cake maker but also an artisan marshmallow baker, so this cake was the perfect brief. With the marshmallows contrasting against the chocolate drips upon which they are sat, they remained the focal point with only minimal delicate and whimsical floral additions required.”

Stationery – Seven Fireflies

“Your stationery is often the first taster your guests get of the vibe and look of your wedding, so for this shoot, we chose to capture the natural surroundings and keep the stationery suite minimal and relaxed. It features a monochrome design, pen and ink sketches of trees and leaves, and a focus on natural textures with handmade papers and kraft card.”

Accessories

“Grooms deserve to share the limelight on their wedding day, so the perfect accessories are always worth considering. Louise of Lilly Dilly’s spends time working with her couples to discuss and design unique accessories that reflect their personality and character, whilst listening to their core values. For this eco-conscious shoot, I wanted the grooms look to demonstrate how combined recycled materials can have an air of opulent luxury and fit the theme of a relaxed country setting. The combination of gold velvet, recycled leather, upcycled bullet cartridge and natural feather detailing worked perfectly here.”

Sustainable Wedding By Twilight At The Jetty, Bedfordshire

“For our bridal model, Victoria Louise Accessories wanted to create something soft & sumptuous to give a touch of sophisticated boho to the look. The headpiece was crafted from the softest velvet in an opulent green, hand embellished with ornate vintage brass florals, diamantés and freshwater pearls. To complement this lustrous freshwater pearls were intricately hand-wired onto large hoops to create the earrings. This set took inspiration from nature and encapsulated delicate elements into a beautifully rich textured piece with a luxury modern yet vintage mix.”

“No outdoor gathering around a fire is complete without the perfect sweet treat accompaniments, so for this shoot, we swapped the evening food platters for a smores board, complete with everything you need to share the ultimate indulgent treat with your guests.”
