9 Ways To Announce Your Engagement (in a non-cheesy way)

Today’s article explores some of the wonderful and quirky ways you can share your news with your family and loved ones and announce your engagement. “Before you get the word out, make sure you’ve had some time to simply soak it all in and savour the moment. Take some time to enjoy this new chapter with your partner, before sharing the news with anybody else. Most couples these days are foregoing the formality in favour of more informal, personal announcements. There’s an announcement style for every engagement, from digital pronouncements to cryptic references to funny parodies to gorgeous photo sessions.”

 

“Whenever you’re ready, start with friends and family before making the announcement publicly (aka posting on social media). But how do you go and tell everyone the happy news in a non-cheesy way? Here are 9 creative ideas to help you break it down in a unique way”

 

Make A GIF

“Make a GIF with you and your partner popping a bottle of your favourite champagne and share it on WhatsApp, Instagram or your favourite social media platform.”

 

 

Customise It

“Order some customised boxes and send some ring doughnuts to your friends stating something like “We wanted to share our delight” or “Forever ever? – in my Outkast voice- “and let them figure it out. For witty personalities only or it might take a while.”

Plan A Walk

“Plan a walk in the park with a few pals at a time, and make sure you order coffee before they arrive, so you can ask your barista to write the announcement on their cups instead of their names. If it’s Starbucks you might want to doodle it yourself, you never know. They might spell it enraged and that would be a totally different story!”

 

Host A Dinner Party

“Host a dinner party either at home or at your favourite restaurant, and invite close family for a fancy dinner. Announce you’re engaged on a printed menu and enjoy watching their reactions one by one.”

 

 

Let Your Children Do It

“If they’re able to speak that is! Let them share the news with your parents, maybe whispering it to their ears or during some play time.  If they’re babies order a custom t-shirt with engagement clues and let them figure it out. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took more than one attempt.”

 

 

Say It With Photography

“If you got engaged while away on holiday, wait until you’re back from your trip. On your next family visit or night out with your pals, show your holiday photos and your engagement ones too, either you had an official hidden photographer, or you just took the snaps with your phone.”

 

 

 

Do A Relationship Timeline

“You can use this one in 2 different ways. One way is to print some photos of you both, since the start of your relationship, including different milestones all the way until your engagement. Then invite people over to your home for drinks and leave photo frames of your timeline in a path leading up to your living room. Another way is to post these photos day by day on social media with the last one being your engagement.”

 

 

 

Say It With Food

“Plan a Chinese night takeaway in advance at your place and ask the restaurant to add your personal message in fortune cookies. You could also spell it with letter cookies or write it on a cake, next time you’ll bring it to a friend’s or family’s get-together.”

 

 

 

Game Over

“If you’re into gaming, you can spread the word of your engagement in a unique way. Declare on your favourite game’s digital environment platform. Tell your friends that your single-player journey has become a shared game. To finish, use relevant personalities, themes, and terminology.”
